“We all have a mountain to climb!” – Objective Kilimanjaro

Are Societex thrill-seekers taking on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro (5,895m) during the summer holidays?

Not yet (maybe one day…) but supporters of the 1st year students at Lycée St Jean XXIII in Reims and their chaperones, who are determined to take up this challenge!

Here’s a look back at a wonderful human story:

Lise, a 16-year-old pupil at Lycée St Jean XXIII, had her leg amputated at the age of 6 months following an illness. This disability has not prevented Lise from practising a number of sports, including horse-riding, skiing and swimming.

One day, the headmaster of the high school, Marc Besancenez, came across Lise in the corridors after her swimming lesson and, impressed by the young girl’s determination, had the crazy idea of taking her to the highest level. And so the Kilimanjaro Project was born!

In addition to Lise, 5 students and 6 companions, including explorer Arnaud Chassery, have been training for several months to achieve their goal: solidarity walks, training to handle the joëlette (the all-terrain wheelchair that will enable Lise to reach the summit), hypoxia tests… nothing has been left to chance to prepare for the 50-hour walk in the high mountains that awaits them this summer (departure on 10 July).

The trip will also be an opportunity to distribute school supplies to schools and dispensaries (400kg of equipment collected, brought and donated).
